WELCOME

People often turn to psychotherapy when they reach a crossroads in their lives, when they find themselves facing obstacles to healthy emotional functioning and growth. This can manifest in a variety of symptoms such as depression and anxiety, excessive worrying, self-destructive behaviors, problems with relationships and intimacy, or a more general sense of being stuck and unable to fulfill one’s potential.

If you are experiencing any of these issues or feel that you are not in command of your own life, psychotherapy could be a good place to start looking for answers and change.

THE WAY I WORK

It is my firm belief that therapy can not only alleviate specific hardships or teach more compassionate self-care, but that good therapy can and should be emotionally transformative.

I see my role as a therapist in providing a supportive, yet challenging environment that fosters emotional well-being, new insights, and change. I am an active participant in the therapy session. Together we will set therapeutic goals and follow a clear path to achieve them. I focus on helping my clients to connect with their feelings and pay particular attention to how emotions are experienced in the body and in the moment. As we experientially work-through these emotions, we will tap into your innate resources for resilience, growth, and psychological well-being.

My approach to treatment is based on the underpinnings of Experiential Dynamic therapy which emphasizes the importance of experiencing healthy emotions in the present, rather than avoiding them. Together we will uncover internal barriers to healthy experience and expression of emotions. Many of us learn early on to avoid certain emotions, but this can have the unintended consequence of cutting us off from ourselves and others, leaving us feeling numb, uneasy, and vulnerable to symptoms such as anxiety and depression. My approach and stance in sessions is relational, which stems from attachment theories. There is a constant striving for emotional closeness in therapy, as it has proven to be a major factor of psychological health.

I address a wide variety of challenges and issues in my practice, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationship difficulties and personality disorders. I conduct individual sessions with adults and adolescents.
